Hello and welcome

As an organisation, founded and led by Africans we are guided by ancient and indigenous African views about life and global citizenry, chief amongst these guides being Ubuntu. The traditional concept Ubuntu is the African idea of personhood: persons depend on other persons to be. This is summarized in the expression: “umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu”, that is, a person is a person through persons. Ubuntu speaks of our “humanity towards others” and embodies all those virtues that maintain harmony and the spirit of sharing among the members of society. The main purpose of Food Secure is to mobilize the concept of Ubuntu, so as to tackle the big concern of food security at the grassroots level. A family is food secure when its members do not live in hunger or fear of hunger, that’s what keeps us awake at Food Secure Now.

We take an innovative approach to help people in poverty-stricken communities. The COVID-19 pandemic is impacting global food systems, disrupting regional agricultural value chains, and posing risks to household food security. As we contend with COVID-19 pandemic it is critical that the people we serve have equal access to sufficient food and nutrition. Using traditional knowledge and communal systems, as well as volunteers,  Food Security Now works with communities in many different capacities to address critical food security challenges exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Critical to our success is the recognition that we are stewards of others’ gifts. We take this responsibility very seriously and conduct all our business with fairness and transparency.

We strive to constantly evolve and evaluate, so we may implement the most effective strategies to achieve our mission.
